Meditation-related challenges: research overview
Willoughby Britton PhD, Jared Lindahl, PhD and David Treleaven, PhD will give a 90-minute public lecture that reviews the findings from the Varieties of Contemplative Experience project, a project which aims to improve our understanding of the range of experiences, both positive and negative, associated with the practice of meditation. The lecture will include detailed descriptions of meditation-related challenges, how often they occur, how long they last, potential risk factors, and different ways these experiences are interpreted.

Working skillfully with meditation related challenges
A two-day training for mindfulness/meditation teachers
The training will address:
- Informed consent
- Screening and monitoring of participants in Mindfulness-Based Interventions
- Understanding the biological and psychological mechanisms adverse reactions in meditation
- Managing meditation-related difficulties using trauma-sensitive, culturally-informed person centered approaches (from David’s recent book)
This ticket includes access to the public lecture.
Credits for continuing training by l’Ordre des Psychologues du Québec have been requested for this 15 hour training.

Rick Hanson, Ph.D. psychologist, Senior Fellow of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, and New York Times best-selling author celebrates True North Insight, Circle of Giving, by offering, in English, an evening talk on Walking Evenly Over Uneven Ground: Using Positive Neuroplasticity to Cultivate Resilient Well-Being and a daylong retreat.
Join True North Insight for either or both the evening talks on Saturday, April 21 from 7-9 pm and the meditation workshop on Sunday, April 22 from 10am – 4pm.
